Asus’s next handheld gaming console, the ROG Ally X, has its launch date announced. The event will take place on June 2, 2024, at 1:30 AM PST (Pacific Standard Time), and the YouTube launch page is already live. Fans, including myself, are hyped for this launch, although a recent leak has already revealed many of the specs.
The leak, courtesy of Videocardz, details the specs of the new ROG Ally X. According to the leaked information, Asus will retain the same processor as the previous ROG Ally 2023 model. This means it will feature the AMD Ryzen™ Z1 Extreme Processor with 8 cores of “Zen4″ architecture and AMD Radeon™ Graphics (AMD RDNA™ 3, 12 CUs, up to 2.7 GHz, up to 8.6 Teraflops). The screen size will also remain the same: a 7” Full HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of peak brightness.
While the specs sheet resembles that of the ROG Ally 2023 Extreme, there are notable differences in design, battery, and RAM. Asus has redesigned the console to accommodate a larger 80W battery, and this time it will feature 24GB of LPDDR5(X)-7500 memory. Compared to the ROG Ally 2023 Extreme, this means the ROG Ally X will come with more RAM and a bigger battery.
Due to the larger battery and increased RAM, the weight of the ROG Ally X has increased to 678g, making it 70g heavier than the ROG Ally 2023 Extreme. It will also be slightly thicker at 36.99mm. Additionally, the USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 port has been upgraded to USB Type-C 4, which supports DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0.
Other than this, a previous report has hinted at a price point of $799 and will come with 1TB of storage space.
