JioCinema Premium released the first official poster for the highly anticipated Dune: Prophecy, an American science fiction television series on Wednesday, 18 September 2024. The poster featured Emily Watson with a fierce aura.

The series will stream on JioCinema Premium in India starting November 2024. However, the exact dates of the JioCinema Premium release haven’t been revealed yet. The series is set to serve as a prequel to the film Dune (2021), which was a massive hit.
Dune (2021) is based on Frank Herbert’s novel of the same name from 1965.

The film also released a second part which was released in 2024. The Dune: Prophecy TV series, is going to revolve around the origins of Bene Gesserit, the powerful sisterhood known to possess superhuman abilities through intense physical training and mental conditioning.

Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker have developed the upcoming TV series. Alison Schapker is also the showrunner of the series.

Premise:

Dune: Prophecy is set 10,000 years before the events of Dune. The series follows sisters Valya and Tula Karkonnen as they combat forces that threaten the future of humanity. Consequently, they establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.

Production:

The series is produced by Legendary Television. Other production companies associated with the production of the series include Cunning Hand and Annabelita Films. Kevin J. Anderson is the Producer and other Executive Producers include Diane Ademu-John, Alison Schapker, Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron, Cait Collins, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Kim Herbert, and Dana Calvo.
Legendary Television ordered the series in 2019. By June 2023, Schapker joined as the showrunner along with Anna Forester to serve as the director for multiple episodes. Casting for the series happened between November 2022 to June 2022. The production team began the principal photography in November 2022 in Budapest and Jordan, and the same was wrapped up by December 2023.

The series will feature Emily Watson as Valya Harkonnen, Olivia Williams as Tula Harkonnen, Jodhi May as Empress Natalya, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as Princess Ynez, Shalom Brune-Fraklin as Mikaela, Faoileann Cunningham as Sister Jen, Aoife Hinds as Sister Emeline, Chloe Lea as Lila, Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart, Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino, Jade Anouka as Sister Theodosia, and Chris Mason as Keiran Atreides. Other recurring cast includes Josh Heuston as Constantine Corrino, Edward Davis as Harrow Harkonnen, Tabu as Sister Francesca, and Jihae as Reverend Mother Kasha Jinjo.
The Music Score for the series is produced by Volker Bertelmann.

The Rs 739 plan for Jio will have 84 days of validity. Under this plan, unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS, and daily 1.5GB data are available. This plan gives users a total of 126GB of data. With this plan, membership of Jio Apps like JioSaavn Pro, JioTV, JioCinema, JioSecurity, and JioCloud will be available.

The Rs 739 plan for Jio will have 84 days of validity. Under this plan, unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS and daily 2GB data are available. With this plan, membership in Jio Apps like JioSaavn Pro, JioTV, JioCinema, JioSecurity, and JioCloud will be available.

Disney+ Hotstar has just announced today that users of its mobile application will be able to watch the live stream of the Asia World Cup 2023 and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for free. The Head of Disney+ Hotstar states that this action will help to improve its overall user base.

Disney+ Hotstar with an aim of improving it’s over all user base has announced that it will be live streaming the most awaited cricket tournaments, the Asia World Cup 2023 and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for free to its mobile application users. The exciting news was announced today, on the 9th of June, 2023, and Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Disney+ Hotstar shared of how the platform has been at the forefront of India’s growing OTT industry. He further conveys that this step by Disney+ Hotstar will help in improving its overall eco-system.

However, it should be noted that this is a major setback to JioCinema, one of the other leading live-streaming OTT platforms of the country and the platform had recorded the highest number of viewers for the Indian Premier League final of 2023 after it won the IPL digital streaming rights for a period between 2023 to 2027. The rights previously belonged to Walt Disney Co’s Disney+ Hotstar.

For those unaware, in India after the entry of JioCinema, the platform has been acquiring a lot of rights and has even started to charge for its contents with a vision to take over its other competitors and Disney+ Hotstar as part of it had lost many of its paid customers to JioCinema which explains this sudden backlash.

Jio Cinema is collaborating with Warner Bros., HBO, and Paramount+ according to the latest reports.

The latest streaming service Jio Cinema, started by the Reliance company, has made a deal with Warner Bros for its content to be shown in India. This collaboration will strengthen Jio Cinema to compete against Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

The Economic Times reported that, after the deal, the Warner Bros. content as well as its HBO content will become available on Jio Cinema such as Game of Thrones, The Harry Potter series etc.

“HBO Original, Max Original, and Warner Bros. Television series are set to premiere on Jio Cinema on the same day as the U.S,” the companies said.

The HBO content was available on the Disney+ Hotstar app but the partnership between the two streaming services ended on March 31, 2023.

Clement Schwebig said that the agreement was part of the commitment towards the South Asia market, as the company looks forward to strengthening the scale of its regional business. Clement Schwebig is the president of Warner Bros. India, Southeast Asia, and Korea.

This deal is going to bring thousands of hours of streaming content to Jio Cinema, which has already become successful with the IPL 2023 broadcasting for free.

Viacom18 won the digital streaming rights of IPL from 2023 to 2027. Reliance, Paramount Global, and Bodhi Tree are the shareholders of Viacom18.

According to the latest reports, Jio Cinema is about to merge with Voot, which is a streaming service of Viacom18. By the end of IPL 2023, Jio Cinema is expected to become Jio Voot and they are also going to charge the subscribers for the streaming content.
