NASA has announced new details regarding its upcoming SpaceX Crew-9 mission, set to launch no earlier than 24 September 2024, following updates shared on social media platform X. The mission will send two crew members to the International Space Station (ISS), NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. Hague will command the mission, while Gorbunov will serve as mission specialist.

Originally, NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Stephanie Wilson were set to join the Crew-9 mission. However, they have now been reassigned to a future flight as part of NASA’s updated strategy. The decision aligns with NASA’s intention to return Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft uncrewed to Earth on 6 September 2024. This reshuffling will leave two unoccupied seats aboard Crew-9, which NASA plans to keep vacant until February 2025, when astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams—who launched aboard the Starliner in June—return to Earth with Hague and Gorbunov.

NASA’s chief astronaut, Joe Acaba, emphasized the importance of having an experienced NASA crew member command the flight, while also integrating a Roscosmos cosmonaut capable of operating critical systems aboard the ISS for continued safety.

However, NASA’s focus has been partially diverted due to mysterious sounds reported aboard the docked Boeing Starliner. Astronauts aboard the ISS, including Butch Wilmore, have detected strange, sonar-like noises coming from the Starliner. The eerie pinging sounds, recorded by Wilmore, have perplexed both the astronauts and Mission Control in Houston.

“There’s a strange noise coming through the speaker, and I didn’t know if you could connect into the Starliner and hear,” Wilmore told Mission Control, offering a recording of the distinct pulsing noise.

Mission Control described the sound as a “sonar ping,” and investigations are underway to determine its cause. The Starliner, which has faced multiple technical issues, will soon return to Earth autonomously without its crew, raising further questions about the unusual sounds. NASA and Boeing engineers are investigating whether the noises could hint at deeper issues or have a simpler explanation.

As NASA prepares for Crew-9’s launch and the Starliner’s return, these developments continue to draw attention to the complex dynamics of spaceflight, highlighting both advancements and challenges in human space exploration.

Along with it, NASA has also announced certain changes to the Crew-9. NASA also aims to return Starliner uncrewed.

Nick Hague, a NASA astronaut and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, will fly to the International Space Station no earlier than 24 September 2024. They will fly on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-9 mission as commander and mission specialist respectively. It will be a two-crew member flight aboard a SpaceX dragon.

On the other hand, Zena Cardman and Stephanie Wilson, who were previously announced as crewmates, would now be reassigned to a future mission.

The new decisions have been formulated according to NASA’s decision to bring back the Boeing Crew Flight Test uncrewed. On the other hand, NASA aims on sending Crew-9 with two unoccupied seats, as they want NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams to fly home with Hague and Gorbunov in February 2024. Both of them earlier launched aboard the Starliner spacecraft in June.

NASA chief astronaut Joe Acaba decided to fly to Hague. He had to find a common ground between flying a NASA crew member with previous spaceflight experience to command the flight. On the other hand, NASA was also supposed to maintain an integrated crew with a Roscosmos cosmonaut with capabilities of operating their critical systems for continued, safe station operations.

SpaceX’s new Starlink Wi-Fi 6 router has now been spotted on the IMDA certification platform. Previously this device was also reported to have made it to the FCC database as well.

Here’s more about it.

New Starlink Wi-Fi 6 Router – IMDA and FCC Listing

This Starlink Wi-Fi 6 router has received and appeared on the IMDA certification platform with the model number – “UTR-232”. It has been listed as a low-power WLAN device.

SpaceX Wi-Fi 6 Router - IMDA Certification

Coming to its FCC listing, the database reveals that this new model will work over the same wireless bands as the existing Wi-Fi 6 router. It is also going to feature two inbuilt LAN ports just like the other, and unlike the other, will be making use of two power adapters – UTP-231L and UTP-232C.

UTR-232 - FCC - 2 UTR-232 - FCC -3

From what can be assumed, this UTR-232 Wi-Fi 6 router can be a finalized version of the UTR-231 Wi-Fi 6 router (Gen 3 mesh router).

Speaking about the UTR-231 model, the Wi-Fi 6 Gen 3 mesh router, is believed to be an accessory for existing customers that will help them boost their Starlink coverage. While looking at the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Wi-Fi routers that came bundled with the Starlink dish, they only have Wi-Fi 5 support.

As pointed out, the Gen 3 mesh router supports Wi-Fi 6 and will be offering much faster broadband speeds. Apart from faster broadband speeds, better energy consumption for mobile phone devices and lesser bandwidth congestion can also be expected. Moreover, the Gen 3 mesh router also has two inbuilt Ethernet ports and offers better range.

Since the new model has been certified by the FCC authority, it can soon be unveiled and more about the router will be known. Stay tuned.

The four-member crew including two US astronauts, a Russian cosmonaut, and a United Arab Emirates astronaut successfully reached the ISS. The SpaceX Crew Dragon that carried the team docked with the ISS shortly after 6:40 AM Irish time. It took the crew about 25 hours to reach the ISS and it was launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. According to the NASA webcast the coupling took place 420 Km above Earth across the coast of East Africa.

Though in between the SpaceX, ground team had to pause the capsule 20 meters from the ISS for 23 minutes when the crew made sure to check the 12 latching hooks used in the capsule for securing the capsule to the docking port. As soon as the capsule docked at the ISS the standard tests were performed which included checking for leaks and pressurizing the passageway between the capsule and ISS. The crew of four members is planned to perform more than 200 experiments which will pave the way for future plans.

These experiments include combustion in microgravity, human cell growth, etc. The Crew 6 is the sixth long-duration ISS team that SpaceX has successfully flown to ISS. The latest Crew 6 mission was led by Stephen Bowen, one time US Navy submarine officer. The second member Warren Hoburg, 37 is an electrical engineer, and computer science expert. This crew also includes UAE astronaut Sultan Alneyadi, the second person from his country to fly in space and Russian Cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev who is an engineer and mission specialist in the team.

The world is to witness the launch of the Crew 6 mission on February 27 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. During this mission, SpaceX will launch four astronauts to the International Space Station on the Crew Dragon spacecraft. Falcon 9 rocket from Florida will carry the Crew Dragon to their destination location. According to NASA’s official website NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen and Warren “Woody” Hoburg, along with UAE (United Arab Emirates) astronaut Sultan Alneyadi and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev, head to the orbiting laboratory for a six-month mission to conduct scientific research.

The astronauts will be working on a number of studies in space like combustion in space, immune monitoring, and tissue chip investigation. In a video shared by NASA, it shared an insight into research that astronauts will be working on in ISS. NASA wrote on Twitter sharing the video “With Crew6, we’ll gather new information in experiments that will bring us closer to our goal of landing on Mars, testing microgravity’s effect on flames and immunity, as well as collecting microorganisms from outside the Space Station. Get to know the mission”.

Combustion Research
The way fuel burns on Earth is completely different from in space. Studies on this will help NASA to assess the flammability of materials used in future space missions. This will also help them in understanding and developing the best equipment for suppressing, detecting, and cleaning up the fire in space.

Immune Monitoring
Our immunity tends to behave in a certain way under different conditions and space is itself one of the different places. Earlier astronauts were tested before and after the mission to test the change their immunity has undergone to fit in space. But this time Immunoassay, an investigation by ESA (European Space Agency) uses a functional immune test. A clear assessment of immune response during the flight and in space will help scientists to better understand the immune response.

Other than this the mission will also include the study of microorganisms near life-supporting vents of spacecraft. This will help them to limit the spread of microorganism contamination from Earth.

SpaceX has had plans to build a Starlink Gateway named ‘Megasite’. According to a filing posted on Twitter by Nathan Owens, SpaceX has got approval to build the site from the UK government.

Look at the tweet:-

The UK Government will proceed to work on providing internet access to the countryside communities in order to aid the work. SpaceX has received approval from the British government in the communication regulator section of Ofcom to build the getaways.

SpaceX already has three operational Starlink Gateways in the country and they are planning to build six more including the ‘Megasite’ at Wherstead, UK. The earlier gateways are ground stations with antennas that connect to fiber-optic infrastructures to access internet data and transmit it to the satellites in Low Earth Orbit.

The next Gateways will support SpaceX’s next-generation Starlink satellites known as the Starlink Generation 2 (Gen2) system.

Michelle Donelan, Digital Secretary, released a statement as reported by tesmanian.com, “High-speed broadband beamed to earth from space could be the answer to the connectivity issues suffered by people in premises stuck in the digital slow lane.”

“Ensuring everyone can get a quality internet connection is crucial to our leveling up plans and these trials aim to find a solution to the prohibitively high cost of rolling out cables to far-flung locations,” they said in a PA Media press release. “We are also today kicking off plans for our biggest broadband build to date as we announce another £100 million is being spent as part of our Project Gigabit program,” he added.

Elon Musk once didn't have enough money for a car repair

“Elon Musk, the electrical cars tycoon and the man who is always into the talks because of his outstanding work and of course the quirky tweets”

Elon Musk is the founder, CEO, and chief engineer of SpaceX; angel investor, CEO, and product architect of Tesla, Inc.; owner and CEO of Twitter, Inc.; founder of The Boring Company; co-founder of Neuralink and OpenAI; and president of the philanthropic Musk Foundation. Precisely, Elon Musk is a self-made man.

Much before rising to such fame, the Tesla Tycoon has shown interest in cars. This incident dates back to the time when he owned his first car which was a 1978 BMW 320i, an inexpensive car but surely a piece to behold at. Today, one of the top 10 richest men in the world once didn’t have enough money to repair his own car.

Musk bought a mirror for $20 from a junkyard to repair his car. This incident came up in December 2019 when Maye Musk, Elon Musk’s mother first tweeted a picture of him repairing his 1978 BMW 320i car in 1995.

These are the snippets that reflect the contrasts in the lives of the same person who once didn’t have enough money to repair a car to founding a company SpaceX which manufactures and launches advanced vehicles and spacecraft and Tesla, the multinational automotive and clean energy company.

Musk has a collection of cars that are interesting to know about and that doesn’t limited to electric cars. This is his journey from an inexpensive 1978 BMW 320i to being an absolute business tycoon who went even went on to acquire Twitter.

SpaceX set the new record

On 28th December SpaceX set the record for the highest number of launches ever conducted by the company. It has completed its 60th mission and the latest mission was about the launch of 54 Starlink satellites by Falcon 9 rocket. The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off at 3:03 pm IST from Launch Complex 40 (SLC – 40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. SpaceX is working on creating a low-orbit space network of satellites that will be able to provide a network facility to distant habitats of humans.

Elon Musk congratulated SpaceX on this milestone and wrote,” Congratulations SpaceX Falcon team on 60 successful launches this year”. If we talk about the data, 2022 witnessed almost double the launch by SpaceX than 2021 which means it’s likely to go up next year. Next year is also full of plans in which SpaceX has planned to work on crewed launches.

The dearMoon is one of the projects that are in the headlines since Indian actor Dev Joshi aka Balveer name has come out for the journey.
