reMarkable Unveils Paper Pro: New E Ink Tablet with Color Display and Larger Screen, Plus Exciting Upgrades

In 2020, reMarkable launched the incredible reMarkable 2 graphics tablet. Now, after four years the company is presenting the new model with new exciting updates. The new model is the reMarkable Paper Pro, a third-generation tablet. The most attractive and important update of this model is a color screen.

The Paper Pro is currently live for sale on reMarkable’s website and Best Buy for a price of $579 with the Standard Marker and $629 with the Marker Plus. You can also add a case to your cart for an additional price of $89 to $179. The brand is also launching a new Type Folio for the Paper Pro, which you can buy for an additional $229.

For the unversed, the reMarkable is an e-paper slate that comes along with a stylus or keyboard. You can read, write, or edit your documents or PDFs on it. The purpose of this tablet is to help one focus and restrict distractions which a typical tablet or a computer offers. The brand focuses on giving a feel of real paper to its products.

Ever since its launch, the reMarkable 2 has been one of the most sought-after E Ink tablets. Now the Paper Pro comes with its attractions and upgraded features. Let’s have a brief walkthrough of these features.

The Paper Pro has been given a little more height and width than its former model. It has gained a little more than an inch in height and a quarter inch in width than its predecessor. The Paper Pro features a display of 11.8-inches. Furthermore, the team has reduced the size of the bezels and chin, which allowed them to accommodate the new bigger display.

In terms of the design, the Paper Pro is incorporated with a stern look and feel with sharp edge bands. The grooves etched into the sides. With these decisions, the team aimed to evoke the idea of holding a sheaf of paper while also adding some grip to the device.

In terms of the processing unit, the Paper Pro processes on a new 1.8Ghz quad-core Cortex A53 processor. It is paired with 2GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. With new silicon, the response time is faster than the earlier model. The device further provides a low latency of about 12 ms. Along with it, you are provided with proper animations during the setup process.

The display additionally uses a technology dubbed “Canvas Colour”, which is a modified version of E Ink’s Gallery 3. The display possesses a series of ink particles within each pixel – White, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow.

The technology is also capable of dithering colors, and mixing them to produce about 20,000 different colors. This allows you to highlight texts, just like we do on a paper. These colors can be layered and similar to a paper, the more layer you draw the colors get darker. However, the texts don’t turn soggy due to the medium being digital.

The Paper Pro also features a frontlight, unlike other reMarkable models. The Paper Pro also has an Apple Pencil-esque active stylus.
