BSNL Upcoming SPAM

In recent developments, two major Indian telecom providers have announced AI-powered solutions aimed at enhancing digital security and combating unwanted communications. Airtel led the charge with its spam detection tool, followed by BSNL’s announcement of an upcoming anti-scam solution.

Airtel’s AI-Powered Spam Detection Tool

On September 25, Bharti Airtel launched an AI-powered spam detection tool. The system is designed to flag suspected spam calls and messages in real-time for Airtel users. According to the company, the tool is automatically activated for all subscribers at no additional cost. It employs a proprietary algorithm to classify communications as “Suspected SPAM” by analyzing various parameters such as caller usage patterns, call frequency, and duration. This data is then cross-referenced with known spam patterns for identification.

Airtel’s Managing Director and CEO, Gopal Vittal, commented on the launch, stating, “Spam has become a menace for customers. We have spent the last twelve months to solve this comprehensively. Today marks a milestone as we launch the country’s first AI-powered spam free network that will shield our customers from the continuous onslaught of intrusive and unwanted communications.”

BSNL’s Upcoming AI/ML Solution for Scam Prevention

Following Airtel’s initiative, BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has now revealed its own plans in the AI space. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the state-owned telecom company announced: “Good news! We’ve cracked it. A breakthrough AI/ML-powered solution is in its final stage, designed to identify, neutralize & eliminate scams before they reach you. The future of digital security is #ComingSoon. Big reveal at India Mobile Congress 2024.”

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) is experiencing financial challenges, which comprise increasing debts and constant losses. To tackle this, the Government of India is thinking of closing down MTNL. Subsequently, MTNL’s operations and staff would be transferred to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL).

According to the Livemint report, government officials have expressed that reviving MTNL won’t be feasible. Authority is of the view that merging it with BSNL would lead to extensive financial harm.  MTNL bears a burden of about Rs 40,000 crore in debt.

The government is analyzing the decision to de-list MTNL from the stock exchanges. However, they are also not planning to list BSNL even though it is the nation’s fourth-largest telecom, stated reports.

Operations and staff of MTNL can rely on BSNL in carrying forward MTNL’s task force as it has experienced major improvements in recent years.

BSNL is marking its presence on the road to recovery. The telecom is planning to launch 5G services by 2024. They are planning on investing Rs 7,000 crore in bank loans for the same.

The fiscal year 2022-2023 marked BSNL’s revenue to a jump of Rs 20,700 crore. However, it is to be noted that losses have increased to Rs 8,161 crore.

BSNL still stuck on 3G

BSNL Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is soon to get a 4G and 5G network series. This is under the ownership of the Department of Telecommunication, Ministry of Communication, and Government of India.

This article will be concerned with the time by which BSNL will get the 4G and 5G service for users, its network speed, and prices. As of now, BSNL is still limited to 3G services while its competitor Ike Airtel and Jio are providing 4G and 5G services. BSNL will be launching its 4G services in 2023. And as far as 5G service is concerned they don’t have the important infrastructure to support 5G though they are in talks with TCS to provide NSA 5G.

As of this year only 4G service is to come so 5G service can be expected by the next year 2024. Speed won’t be compromised either because expectations are at par with Airtel and Jio. BSNL has not revealed the price and charges of 4G and 5G service though we can expect it to be quite less than Airtel and Jio.

Telecom Operators in India

We can expect a hike in tariff plans soon. Telecom Operators are aiming to increase the price of their tariff plans by 10%, says analysts at Jefferies.

Here’s What We Know

Reports says that the Telecom operators in India might soon increase the price of their tariff plans by 10% and intends to have a continuous hike in fiscal year 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The benefits of the previous tariff hikes are now realized by companies and it is at this juncture, telecom operators has decided to increase the price of their tariff plans.

With the previous tariff hikes, Jio managed to increase its average revenue per user(ARPU) by 0.8%, Vodafone Idea had a 1% increase and Airtel made an unbelievable 4% increase in its ARPU.

As the first step to increase the tariff plans, Airtel has also taken away the Rs. 99 base plan and has made the Rs. 155 tariff plan as the base plan now. Airtel by this has also invited other telecom operators to join them.

Analysts at Jefferies has identified this chance for a 10% price hike and it is something unavoidable.

With the launching of 5G network throughout the country, operators will slowly increase the prices to meet their additional expenses in the infrastructural development.

The short term goal of Airtel, according to the company, is to reach a level of Rs. 200 as the average revenue received per user and with the price hike, Airtel will be able to achieve it. But the telecom operator plans to make the ARPU Rs. 300 in the future.

After the tariff hikes, the Rs. 719 plan will most probably cost around Rs. 799 or Rs. 789. Other tariff plans will also have similar price hikes as well.

BSNL to launch 5G services

India has been eagerly waiting for 5G services to regulate, and even with certain companies having launched it, recently at the CII, Confederation of Indian Industries, BSNL. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited announced that they are ready to launch 1.35 lakh 5G towers across the country over the next 5 to 7 months. Reliance and Jio are two companies that have already rolled out 5G services in the major cities of India.

The deployment of the telecom technology stack is planned. It currently uses 4G technology, but in five to seven months it will transition to 5G. Ashwini Vaishnav, the railway minister, announced that the 4G technology will be upgraded to 5G in just a matter of months. A 500 crore annual Telecom Technology Development Fund that has been established will be increased to 3,000–4,000 crore funds annually. The entire industry will have access to that technology development fund, according to Mr. Vaishnav.

In order to provide the benefits of 5G services to India’s distant regions, where the services of the normal market mechanism are still absent, the minister reiterated that the state telecom service provider’s 5G services will be essential. This will make sure that BSNL starts its 5G testing in advance. The minister asserted that BSNL is purportedly deploying its 5G service in outlying areas, which is at odds with the market strategy used by private operators.

Vaishnav also mentioned that the government is at present, promoting these technological innovations, particularly in the sectors of railway and defense. The government supports businesses from the idea to the concept stage, and occasionally even all the way through to the market or income stream, he continued, for at least three to four years.

The Government has decided to execute administrative allocation of spectrum to BSNL. This would be done to facilitate and expand 4G services. Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, informed this on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

The Union Cabinet approved a package of Rs 1.64 lakh crore today for the revival of the state-owned telecom firm, BSNL. The package included three elements. These are: to improve services, de-stress balance sheet and expansion of fibre network.

An amount of Rs 33,000 crore statutory dues will be converted into equity to de-stress the balance sheet. A similar amount of bank loans will be repaid through low interest bonds issues. Additionally, the minister also informed that BBNL will be merged with BSNL.

The Government, on October 23, 2019, approved a revival plan for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). It was also approved that spectrum for the two firms for providing 5G and 4G services would be administratively allocated. Following this BSNL and MTNL would roll out 4G and 5G services on techno-commercial considerations.

BSNL earlier sought 2100 MHz spectrum for pan-India operations except in Rajasthan. On the other hand MTNL had sought 1800 MHz spectrum for Delhi and 2100 MHz for Mumbai.

With this allocation, revival and new performance by BSNL would be expected in the Telecommunication sector.
