Amazon Launches New Kindle ColorSoft, Along with Upgraded Versions of its Entry-Level Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Scribe

Amazon has now surprised its Kindle fans with a whole range of new Kindle e-readers. Newer and upgraded 2024 versions of its entry-level Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Scribe have been introduced. An all-new Kindle Colorsoft e-reader, Amazon’s very first color Kindle model, has also been brought out.

Check out more about the latest Kindle e-readers below.

Kindle 2024

Firstly speaking about Amazon’s entry-level Kindle model, the latest 2024 version is more or less similar to the previous one in terms of specs. The Kindle 2024 features a 300 PPI 6″ E Ink display and weighs 158 gm. Additionally, a 25% brighter front light (at maximum), higher contrast ratio, and quicker page turns are some upgrades. The 16GB storage model is priced at $110, $10 higher when compared to the previous version, and is available in a new Matcha Green color for purchase.

Kindle Paperwhite 2024

The Kindle Paperwhite 2024 version now has a slightly larger 7″ display, thanks to the reduction in bezel size, in a similar-sized chassis like its predecessor, with 25% faster page turns and a thinner form factor. The Kindle Paperwhite 2024 is also said to be the fastest Kindle that Amazon has released till date. It also has the highest contrast ratio when compared to other Kindle models (with the help of the new oxide thin-film transistor), and is waterproof. The battery is expected to last up to three months.

The Kindle Paperwhite 2024 (16GB) has a price point of $160, whereas the Signature Edition (with 32GB storage, auto adjusting front light, and wireless charging support) is priced at $200. To note, there is again a $10 price hike on the Kindle Paperwhite 2024 base model. Both the standard and Signature Edition variants will be available in Metallic Black, Metallic Jade, and Metallic Raspberry colors.

Kindle Colorsoft

Amazon’s Kindle Colorsoft is an answer to Kobo’s Clara Colour and Libra Color e-readers, and uses new color E Ink displays. It is similar to the Kindle Paperwhite 2024 Signature Edition, but with color, and uses the same oxide thin-film transistor with custom wave forms. It is fully waterproof, and supports wireless charging. The battery life is however very low with respect to the Kindle Paperwhite 2024 that lasts up to 3 months. Users may only expect 8 weeks of battery life on the Kindle Colorsoft.

Coming to the price, it is priced at $280 ($60 higher than the Kobo Libra Color that is priced $220), and the shipping of the device will start from the 30th of October 2024, this month onwards.

Kindle Scribe 2024

Finally, about the Kindle Scribe 2024 (2nd generation), it now has white borders around its 10.2″ E Ink display (300 PPI), along with a new flush-front display with a paper-like feel-giving coating. Amazon’s new Premium Pen is also a further upgrade, as well as the many new AI features like Active Canvas, legible text conversion, and notes summarization. These AI features are also said to come on the first generation Kindle Scribe too.

Three storage variants of 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB are available for the Kindle Scribe 2024, and the base model carries a price tag of $400 ($20 hike from its predecessor). The release of the Kindle Scribe 2024 is scheduled towards the end of this year, on the 4th of December 2024.

Huawei Suing Amazon For Patent Infringement

In response to the infringement of its patent rights, Huawei issued a court notification.

The defendants in the lawsuit include Amazon, Compal Electronics, a maker of e-ink displays, and a number of their subsidiaries.

Given that Compal Electronics is a defendant in this patent dispute, industry insiders believe Huawei’s lawsuit may be related to e-ink screens and related products, according to Chinese media outlet Guancha.

In this particular field of consumer electronics, Huawei and Amazon are direct competitors.

Compal Electronics is a leading Taiwanese computer manufacturer that assembles products for Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and other computer behemoths. It has foundries in Kunshan, Nanjing, and other Chinese cities.

Amazon announced in June that it would cease operations of the Kindle e-bookstore in China on June 30, 2023, effectively withdrawing the platform from the market.

Meanwhile, the Huawei MatePad Paper, a HarmonyOS-powered e-ink tablet released in March of this year, surpassed the Kindle Youth Edition in terms of online sales volume in less than two months, shipping more than 110,000 units in the three months following its release.

In comparison to the Kindle, the Huawei MatePad Paper is based on the HarmonyOS system and has made significant advances in areas that directly improve the user experience, such as content, interaction, ecology, and multi-screen collaboration, making e-ink tablets an ideal device for a larger user base.

On December 8, 2018, the case will be heard in the Intermediate People’s Court of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.
