Tecno has announced a new Phantom Ultimate 2 tri-fold phone concept at IFA Berlin. This tri-fold concept smartphone comes as the successor of the Tecno Phantom Ultimate that it announced at MWC 2024. The new concept is said to be the thinnest among existing triple-folding models, measuring just 11mm in thickness. It comes with a 10″ wide display when unfolded with the TDDI technology thus making it the first foldable to come with it.
Several factors have worked to make it one of the thinnest tri-fold smartphones. In this first comes the thinner hinge, the thinnest battery cover measuring just 0.25mm, and the streamlined camera design. It has got 6.48″ cover display size, with a 4:3 aspect ratio. It supports OLED Touch and Display Driver Integration (TDDI) and an advanced 3K LTPO screen with 392 PPI.
The company says that this smartphone can be used under various scenarios like a screen hovering with the base of the screen used flat for typing on a keyboard while the upright screen provides a laptop-style display for convenient notetaking in meetings. It also supports multi-window mode to improve efficiency. It comes with advanced software and UI specifically optimized for the tri-fold design and scenarios like large-screen viewing and tent mode, as well as having the potential for exciting third-party app adaption.
Tecno has not announced the time it will take to make it available in the market. Some reports say that Huawei can also soon announce its tri-fold smartphone in the market.
