Fact Check: Whatsapp message claiming no deaths in Israel from COVID-19 due to lemon-bicarbonate drink

“In Israel no death from C-19!” this is how the first line of a fake message, which is now being widely circulated online, starts. It then goes onto say how there’s a cure for coronavirus and also falsely claims that the virus didn’t cause any deaths in the country. The message then details a supposed cure for the pandemic – a combination of lemon, water, and bicarbonate (baking soda). Further, the message even presents an explanation that the mixture “alkalizes the immune system” and that’s why “people of Israel are relaxed about this virus”.

The information shared in the message is fake and misleading. Israel has launched a website where they issue a press releases on COVID-19. There are no such claims made by the website.

Also there is a famous publication of Israel The Times Of Israel which shared the number of deaths so far as 292 as of today.

Also there is no such information over lemon-bicarbonate drink on the WHO website, so according to our Fact Check team we found that this message is false and misleading.
