Fact Check: Did British Airways fired its complete staff?

On April 2, as interest for air travel fallen in the scenery of the coronavirus emergency, British Airways (BA) put 30,000 of its 42,000 representatives on leave of absence. Not exactly a month later, the UK airline, in a letter to its workers, said around 12,000 staff would confront “repetition”.

The Tech Outlook Fact Check has discovered that the video was posted by a YouTube channel with a comparative name to a representative association. BA proposed an occupation cut, yet it has not been executed at this point. Actually, the airline has declared the resumption of administrations.

The Tech Outlook test

To confirm the case, we checked the BA’s authentic YouTube channel. We didn’t discover any video on staff excusal, or the airline twisting up or in any event, decreasing administrations. Or maybe, BA has posted a video on the resumption of administrations. The video, with the title “Looking forward to welcoming you back on board”, was transferred on June 20.

We ran an opposite hunt on one of the key edges of the viral video and found that it was first transferred on YouTube on June 13 by a generally secret channel called “Unite the Union Yout”.

The name of the YouTube channel is like a worker association called “Unite the Union Yout”. This present specialists’ association is situated in the United Kingdom, and its authority YouTube channel can be seen here. This YouTube channel doesn’t convey the viral video.

Employment cuts at BA

According to reports, BBC News had provided details regarding April 1 that IAG-possessed British Airways is required to declare suspension of 36,000 workers.

The report said that to endure the Covid-19 emergency, the airline had arrived at an arrangement with Unite the Union that will incorporate suspension of occupations for 80 percent of the lodge group, ground staff, engineers and those working at the administrative center. There will be no terminations however.

In any case, on April 28, BBC News revealed that BA has proposed to chop out 12,000 representatives. This had prompted a few MPs calling the carrier “a national disfavor”. However, up until now, there has been no report of the activity cut proposition being executed.
