Scammers have officially started using fake cryptocurrency websites to steal funds from users, as part of a wave of crypto-related hacks.
According to the report, the sham websites pose as pages for popular cryptocurrency services such as Coinbase in order to trick visitors into providing information that will allow hackers to access their cryptocurrency wallets.
Scammers have literally taken help of the websites using SEO techniques, which used URL addresses that strongly resemble internet sites and domed the fake pages to the first page of Google’s search results.
Erin Plante, while a discussion on this said, that there are a huge number of people who are making fake versions of real websites and not only this, they are even directing the users to the faulty pages and thereafter stealing off their money. Erin is the senior director of investigations at the blockchain data platform Chainalysis.
As per the reports, more than half of the victims who lost their crypto money first met the scammer via an ad, post, message or social media.
