Reliance Jio demonstrates India’s first satellite satellite based GigaFiber service Internet service at IMC 2023
Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited the world’s largest private mobile data network demonstrated India’s first satellite-based GigaFiber service at India Mobile Congress 2023 in the presence of PM Narendra Modi. This new service from the company aims to provide high-speed broadband service to previously inaccessible geographies.
The JioSpace Fiber service will soon be available across the length and breadth of the country at highly affordable costs. As of now, Jio delivers high-speed broadband fixed line and wireless services to over 450 million Indian consumers.

Currently, JioSpace Fiber is available across four remote locations in India
- Gir Gujarat
- Korba Chhattisgarh
- Nabrangpur Odissa
- ONGC Jorhat Assam
“Jio has enabled millions of homes and businesses in India to experience broadband internet for the first time. With JioSpaceFiber, we expand our reach to cover the millions yet to be connected,” said Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited. For this service, Jio has used satellite technology from S.A., a Luxembourgish firm that specializes in space connectivity.
Jio is one of the two firms with Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) licenses from the Department of Telecommunication. Other competing firms are still trying to get the license. SpaceX’s Starlink has also yet not receive the license to serve in India.
